Describe the cover
layout-
The layout of the
cover is an image of Albert Einstein working on a white board. The title is
clean cut and written directly under is the question, 'what is genius?'. There
is a reflection of his face on the board that he seems to be writing on.
However there is no clean cut outline of the board.
What colors or text
features are utilized?
The background of
the cover is a galaxy, the use of purple, blue and white specks is calming and
hypnotizing. They keep the color scheme with Einstein's jacket being in
different shades of purple. The white writing on the board are different math
equations and variables. Using the math equation and galaxy on the cover, ties
to the question at the top, 'what is genius?'. This cover makes the reader's
imagination stir as they think about the various science discoveries and
scientist who had found them.
What kind of
articles are included and on what pages do they appear?
The articles
featured in this magazine vary from important nature events to scientific
breakthroughs. On the table of contents there are 7 articles listed.
The first article is a question page on page 8, followed by the cover story on
page 30 then an article on health in Africa on page 56. The articles are pretty
well spread out throughout the 158 page magazine.
What advertisements
are included and on what pages do they appear?
There are many
alcoholic advertisements, all with nature as the picture to sell their
drink. There are a few insurance and technology advertisements. All the
advertisements are well mixed and though out. The advertisement and articles
are also separated with pictures taken by National Geographic representatives.

appear on the cover, table of contents, and the articles?
There is only one
photo on the cover that takes over the entire cover. the table of contents has
a photo horizontally in the center of the page, it is of a beautiful landscape
from what seems to be Scotland. All the articles have very well taken and posed
photographs. The cover article has 3 pages of pictures before the article
starts. There is also ages with a picture on them from a photographer who works
for the national geographic and travels for different assignments. The
assignments are written in brief on the page the picture is printed on.

The
distribution number for the spring of 2016 was 9,619 readers per
issue.

The magazine has
won a total of 24 National Magazine Awards between 1980 and 2011. In 2006,
2007, and 2011 National Geographic magazine won the American Society of
Magazine Editors' General Excellence Award. In 2010, National Geographic
Magazine received the highest ASME awards for photojournalism and essay. In
2011, National Geographic Magazine received the Magazine of the Year Award, the
top-award from ASME. In 2014, National Geographic received the National
Magazine Award ("Ellie") for best tablet edition. In February 2017,
National Geographic again received the National Magazine Award
("Ellie") this time for best website.
